Krakow and Warsaw

Enjoy the perfect blend of history and dynamic present in Poland’s two largest cities – Warsaw and Krakow

DAILY PROGRAM

Day 1

Arrive in Warsaw. The guide meets at the airport and takes you to your hotel. Dinner.

Day 2

Breakfast. Today we take bus tour in Warsaw. It is the biggest and fastest developing Polish city with population estimated at 1.7 million. Warsaw has been Poland’s capital since the late 16th century. Most of the city had been destroyed during the WWII, including the Old Town and the Royal Castle. Many of the historic streets, buildings and churches were however restored to their original form after the war. Apart from visiting Old Town we will also see the vibrant business downtown with its skyscrapers. The skyline is still dominated by the enormous Palace of Culture and Science – Stalin’s donation to the nation. From the lively city center we will go to the serene park Lazienki Krolewskie – a garden-palace complex from 18th century. It’s here where visitors can listen to live concerts near the monument of Frederick Chopin. We have lunch before we leave for Krakow. We arrive in the former capital in the evening and check into our hotel.

Day 3

Walking tour in Krakow – we visit the Main Market Square with Cloth Hall and St. Mary’s church. We continue to the Wawel hill – high rock in the middle of the city where the royal castle and cathedral, setting for royal coronations and burials, are located. Worth visiting is also the former Jewish district Kazimierz that for centuries was known as the home of one of the largest Jewish communities in Europe. WWII put an end to this chapter if history, only a small number of 64 thousand Jews that lived here survived the Nazi occupation.

Day 4

After breakfast we travel to visit the almost 800 years old Wieliczka salt mine. Our route begins 64 m under the earth and continues 2,5 km to the third level, 135 m below the ground. We will see many chambers, salt sculptures, lakes and the highlight – richly decorated chapel of saint Kinga. Lunch in Wieliczka. Back in Krakow approx. 1.00 p.m
